Zack Greinke topped out at 89.5 mph with his fastball Wednesday in his start against Team Mexico. And the high-priced right-hander was mostly sitting around 88 mph in that start, per beat writer Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Greinke wound up yielding two runs on six hits over 2 2/3 innings. "It’s still early," he said after the game. "It is what it is. It’s still early and it’s not like some crazy, crazy thing. But it’s not ideal, either." Greinke, who's still owed $172.5 million from the Diamondbacks, was hitting 93 mph with his fastball at this point last year.
I was encouraged that the DBacks would be teaming up Greinke with better receiving catchers than Welington Castillo, but this is not encouraging. Is it too early to worry?
