Cashner Shut Down

Andrew Cashner has been shut down again with renewed biceps discomfort.
Cashner was diagnosed earlier this month with biceps tendinitis and experienced lingering pain while trying to resume throwing this week. He can probably be ruled out for the start of the season at this point. Cashner, 30, landed a one-year, $10 million free agent contract from the Rangers in November despite posting a 5.25 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 132 innings last summer between the Padres and Marlins.

Oy. Texas is in need of starters in a bad way. How much are they counting on from Tyson Ross?

This is the bad part of the organization. Haven't been able to draft quality pitchers and develop them. Matuella would have been something but has been hurt quite a bit. Martin Perez hasn't panned out. Chi Chi Gonzalez, well. They've had to go out and buy expensive FAs: Yu Darvish or trade the farm: Cole Hamels. I advocated trading Profar and Gallo when Profar got on a nice hot streak last summer and try to get Quintana: www.shutdowninning.com/on-the-trade-block-jurickson-profar/

but...nah, they wouldn't listen. Now they've got a platoon partner LF in Profar, Gallo who can't strikeout less than 35% of the time, and no pitching staff (and now not much of a farm presently).

And so it goes. Be lucky to get 130 IP from Ross this season.
