I don't get this. I'm not saying he's a stud quarterback, but how has he drawn the ire of the organization like this? It feels a little like Josh Freeman's ouster in Tampa.

Because the organization feels like he is pretty limited offensively (scrambling before completing reads, rarely throwing over the middle of the field, inaccuracy/lack of touch on many passes), which would contribute to their offense never being fully functional, as long as he is the starting QB. Due to the Bills' playoff drought, the Bills and their fans exist in a mindset where they waiver between "just give us a competent QB, we need to end the playoff drought, and we can worry about actually contending later", and "we don't want to hitch our wagon to a very limited QB, and ride that limited offense for the next 5 years, and then get upset because our offense is never better than limited". The Bills will see an average to below average QB, and yearn for a better QB... as any team should, since below average QB play will not win a Super Bowl (with very rare exceptions), which should be the goal of every team.

Sounds a little like Tarvaris Jackson to me.

I don't get the Tyrod hate either. he doesn't turn the ball over and makes plays. If Watkins was healthy all year they could have been a lot better. They could have easily been 10-6 this year if the defense ever tried to stop the run.

Injuries at WR certainly hurt Tyrod and his production, but he remains a rather limited QB. An important facilitator to having the best rushing game in the NFL, but there will always be major things in the passing game as long as he is there. I was optimistic with him after his first season, and I'm not really willing to "start over" by searching for a new QB, so I hope he stays, but I get why they would move on. The ultimate goal is NOT to go 9-7 or 10-6, and lose in the 1st round of the playoffs. That can't be your team's best case scenario, and as long as you only have an ATHLETE at your QB position, a decent not a PASSER, you will not be a serious consideration tender.
Yes, Tyrod was VERY exciting... but so would 20 yard passes, and that just does not happen with him, often enough. It's short dump offs, or a random 50 yard completion. We have to be more consistent in the mid range, and we aren't. So, unfortunately, that means cutting your losses, and probably rebooting the roster while you search for your true franchise QB.

I guess it boils down to money. I just looked at the way his contract is structured. If they keep him this year they're on the hook for big money each of the next few years if he does flame out. But if they cut him now they save 14 mil this year and erase his entire contract from the books for the four years after.
Also, I read this morning that LeSean McCoy might get cut. Kind of a curious move.
