When I joined Netsports toward the end of 2001, I was a 21 year old high school dropout literally living in my parents' basement, and was 6 months removed from withdrawing from my first shot at college. Probably never shared with anyone on the board because it was/is pretty embarrassing, but nearly died November 2003 of a fentanyl overdose (way to go). About a year after Netsports folded, I moved back to Boston, eventually got my BS from Boston University nights (12-16 credits a semester my last two years), all while working full-time.
Today I make in 6 hours what I did in a week back then, own a multi-family property in Boston, and travel a little when I can get time off work. Things changed a bit. Whatever role the forum played in my life, it was (and the simm league after it) a constant in my life for nearly a decade as I was finding myself, and certainly had more than a negligible impact. ¯\(º_o)/¯

Glad to hear you are doing better. It took me 10 years to get my degree, it is pretty amazing what you can start making. I feel as though Netsports played a big role in my young life as well.

Well let's see: Worked a number of years in politics in Canada, never lost a campaign as campaign manager (3-0) Moved to Tulsa, OK, got a law degree Got a big boy lawyer job, moved to Minneapolis, became real world friends with BW52 and potatohead103. Moved to Chicago for work, but travel a ridiculous amount. Seen games in 24(23 now, thanks, Atlanta) parks. No wife, no kids, but hoping to soon as I near the end of my extended adolescence.
Good to talk to you guys again!!

Even on your nights off, you're unavailable to go see the best young team in the NBA (apologies to Brewinbucks). Getting drunk and committing to Wolves season tickets was still not the worst decision I've made while intoxicated, haha.

That simm league is still going, fam. Yeah, but a part of me died when Dustin Dirks left the Rangers. I should have been more up front about that.

Yeah, but a part of me died when Dustin Dirks left the Rangers. I should have been more up front about that. What were his peak talents, roughly? I don't recall, but he ended up being Bondsian, obviously. One thing is his career was nearly over before it started. I forget who it was, but they had some pitcher with close to a zero rating in control, who I said to not use in the league until it improved, but he called him up anyway. That pitcher, of course, ended up hitting Dirks with a pitch and breaking his arm. His ratings dipped quite a bit after that and in the offseason, but he ended up having a bump back up after the following season.

I think around the time Netsports shut down I was just starting a degree in Political Science in Ottawa, and I finished that in 2012. Since then, I've mainly been working in sales, but I moved from Canada to Australia just last September (I'm just not sure if I am here permanently, but we'll see). I've managed to get a fair bit of travelling done throughout the U.S. and Europe in that time too, and I'm planning on doing Asia sometime this year or next. The biggest difference for me, in 2017, is that with the time change here, I almost never watch sports anymore. Last summer I watched nearly every Jays game until September whereas over the past few months I've only been able to watch a handful of NFL playoff games and the Warriors-Thunder this past weekend at a bar in a 11am. I had to call in sick to watch the Super Bowl because it was on a Monday morning.
This is weird timing because just this past weekend I thought about Netsports for the first time in a long time. I concluded that I was happy that it didn't exist anymore, because it feels like I kinda grew up on that site and I'm not sure if I want all of those awkward teen years archived for good. I don't even think I've posted on a single message board since then. Either way it's good to see the old community back together again.
